People who have experienced mud slides first hand are those most suitable to deal with the risk most succesfully.
In several countries, programmes are now in place to preserve slopes with potentially dangerous effects.
Scientists are yet to properley formulate a succesful plan to prevent wholescale slope failure. However some measures have been taken such as barrier building and underground material movement. Although these have proved valid attempts, there stil remains no long term plan to prevent their occurance.
By 2015 the UN have proposed to hold a summit based upon educating the less developed world as to the dangers of natural risk. Mudslide and Slope failure will be discussed on the agenda.
